January 2012

1/    Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. Mass is celebrated at 10:30 AM in the Grotto Chapel.

8/    Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.  Following the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist, the Shrine’s volunteer community will gather for a simple brunch in Pilgrim Hall. If you are a volunteer and want to attend, please call the Montfort House office before Friday January 6th (860.567.1041) or email your RSVP at lourdesshrinect@gmail.com. 

February 2012

2/    Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Today the Church celebrates the traditional feast of Candlemas, a moment when we remember the moment when Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the Temple and the Light of Love shown for all the world to see. Mass is celebrated at 10:30 AM.

11/    Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. In the bleak midwinter we celebrate Mary’s apparition to St. Bernadette at the grotto in Massabielle, France. Our celebration of our patroness is much simpler, but equally holy. Join us this morning for mass at 10:30 AM. For more detailed information, please call the office at 860.567.1041.  HAPPY FEAST!

22/    Celebration of Ash Wednesday. Mass is celebrated at 10:30 AM with the distribution of ashes. If you can, plan on joining us as we embark on our Lenten and Easter Journey with Jesus toward Jerusalem, the Cross and triumphantly into Resurrection. 

25/    Lenten Day of Recollection, “Who Do You Say I Am?”  A day of prayer, learning and quiet reflection will be led by Andree Grafstein, staff person at the Spiritual Life Centre in Farmington, CT. The cost of the day is $35/person and includes a simple lenten lunch. Mass is celebrated at 10:30.  The day’s prayer begins at 9:00 AM and ends around 4 PM. April 2012

16/    Feast of St Bernadette. 

28/    Feast of St Louis Marie de Montfort. Mass is celebrated today in honor of the founder of the Montfort Missionaries and Daughters of Wisdom and great preacher on the Blessed Mother. Join us at Montfort House for 10:30 AM liturgy.

30/    Monthly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick after Mass. This is also the final Sunday of the Shrine Winter Schedule. Beginning next week, Sunday liturgy is celebrated at the Grotto at 11:30 AM.

May 2012

1/    Feast of Saint Joseph, the Worker. Celebrate with the Universal Church this day when we honor St Joseph, Guardian of Jesus and Mary, and his example of dedication, love and struggle.  

Today we also begin our 54th Pilgrimage Season with Mass at 11:30 AM in the Grotto.  After today, the daily mass schedule changes to 11:30 AM and we celebrate each day at the Grotto (except Monday).

13/    Mother’s Day. At the conclusion of today’s liturgy there will be a special blessing for all women who are present. Please remember to bring flowers or plants for the Grotto Plaza.

20/    Annual Blessing of the Motorcycles. We continue the tradition of blessing motorcycles at the beginning of the summer riding season. Blessing begins at 1:30. There is no scheduled afternoon benediction or praying of the rosary.

27/    Pentecost Sunday and Annual May Crowning. During today’s beautiful liturgy we invite everyone to join in the crowning of the Blessed Mother’s statue at the Grotto. And, at the conclusion on Mass, we will have the monthly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick.

June 2012

10/    Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. The Blessed Sacrament will be placed in exposition in the Grotto Chapel at the end of Mass today where it will remain for all who come for quiet, prayerful adoration. At 3:00 PM we will have the regularly scheduled prayer and recitation of the rosary.

17/    Father’s Day. At the conclusion of Mass today there will be a prayer and blessing for all the men who are present, in honor of Father’s Day.

24/    Monthly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick following Mass.

July 2012

4/    Please join us for Mass today as we pray for our country, peace and for the upcoming presidential elections. 11:30 AM in the Grotto.

26/    Monthly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick following today’s liturgy.

August 2012

12/    Annual Talent Show. Got talent? Love to sing in the shower? Then share it with those who will gather near the Grotto today for our customary Talent Show. Please contact Jerry Buchas after masses to register, or leave a message at the Office: 860.567.1041.

15/    Solemnity of Mary’s Assumption. Mass on this beautiful feast is celebrated at 11:30 AM in the Grotto with the celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick following. For more details, please contact the Office at 860.567.1041 or by email at lourdesshrinect@gmail.com. 

26/ Monthly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick.

September 2012

8/    Feast of the Birth of Mary. Mass is celebrated in the Grotto at 11:30 AM in honor of the birth of Mary, Mother of Jesus and of the Church.

30/    Celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick following Mass today.

October 2012

7/    Living Rosary. Hosted by the Connecticut Knights of Columbus, this yearly event helps us celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Prayer begins in the Grotto Plaza at 2:00 PM.

10/  Last date for group pilgrimages to the Grotto this season. Today marks the end of the 2012 Pilgrimage Season. Daily Mass continues at the Grotto until Sunday the 14th. The Grotto Café closes today at 2:00 PM for the duration of the winter months. 

14/    Annual Harvest Dinner and End of the 2012 Pilgrimage Season.  Tickets for this wonderful feast of autumn foods wil lgo on sale during September at the Office in Montfort House or at the the Grotto Café and Gift Shop in Pilgrim Hall.

16/    Change of time for daily Mass. Beginning today, Mass is celebrated in the Montfort House Chapel at 10:30 AM. 

22-26/    Semi-Annual Tag Sale. Stop by and select from the great deals you can find in this twice yearly fund raiser organized by our Shrine’s volunteers. 

November 2012

22/    Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 AM in the Chapel at Montfort House.

25/    Monthly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick.

December 2012

8/    Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Please join us as we celebrate this holy day of obligation in the Grotto Chapel at 10:30 AM.


Annual Christmas Holiday Activities
Watch this space for exact dates and times for our annual Gingerbread making activity, Christmas Carol Sing, and hosting of the Litchfield area Living Nativity.

24/   Christmas Eve Mass is celebrated in the Grotto Chapel at 7:30 PM.

25/    Christmas Morning Mass is celebrated at 10:30 AM in the Grotto Chapel.
